Master Control Supervisor

A future minded multi-platform sports network is seeking a Master Control Supervisor to join our team. As the only major national sports network in the Midwest, Stadium offers a unique opportunity to create work that matters and define the future of the sports broadcasting industry.

Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Master Control Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring a high quality on-air presentation for all programming and overseeing a team of three Master Control Operators. Programming includes original taped programming, live events, press conferences and live studio shows.

The successful candidate will be technically inclined with a comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to operate broadcast equipment in a master control environment.

Key Job Responsibilities Include:

  • On-air operation of Grass Valley ITX Master Control System
  • Editing, managing on-air logs, automation playlists and server device management 
  • Complete LIVE on-air faxing with remote and studio sources; playlist routes 
  • Monitor and maintain quality of outgoing signals and adjust equipment as necessary
  • Preview scheduled programs to ensure that signals are functioning and programs are ready for broadcast
  • Ensure closed captioning accuracy 
  • Support operation of the station by assisting engineering, ingest, and other departments 
  • Report equipment problems, ensure necessary repairs are made and perform emergency workarounds 
  • Quality control duties of filing shows and commercial spots into video server
  • Create master control workflow documents to support the operators and engineers
  • Oversee master control staff including hiring operators, setting schedules and managing performance
  • Communicate with other departments to ensure elements and other materials needed for master control are delivered in a timely fashion

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years Master Control Experience, Grass Valley ITX experience required
  • College Degree in related field (Communication, Broadcasting) preferred
  • Ability to read and understand Video and Audio metering software
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use logic to address work-related issues and problems
  • Reliable, responsible and dependable
  • Strong attention to detail in completing work tasks and provide communication through engineering reporting and discrepancy reports
  • Knowledge of on-air graphic elements through Grass Valley Vertigo – Ticker (via SMT), bug and sponsor secondary events
  • Knowledge of spot delivery platforms a must
